Around 1900 Helene Kröller-Müller collected contemporary art centered around Van Gogh. De Stijl artists like Mondriaan and Van der Leck were part of the collection as well as Dutch and French impressionists. The estate at De Hoge Veluwe became the location for the Kröller-Müller museum. Because they were among the wealthiest families in the Netherlands Helene sometimes bought 4 van Goghs in a day. With Vincent she shared the same love for nature.
The Kröller-Müller museum finally opened at de Hoge Veluwe park in 1938. Unfortunately the Müller Company went bankrupt but caused the collection to become public. Since then the National Park developed into an international renowned venue where art, nature an architecture go together seamlessly.
You’ll be introduced to the life and work of van Gogh in relation to other movements in art. The collection spans from the beginning of the 20th century till now. In the sculpture garden, one of the largest in Europe, art and nature automatically merge. You’ll find a wide range of internationally acclaimed artists, both from the Netherlands and abroad.
